In 1937, Fernando Farinha, known as "The Boy of the Bica", was the winner of a children's Fado singing competition. At the time the critics wrote: "This 'boy' sings the Fado better than many adults. Let us hope that he does not lose this skill as he grows older...."

However, Fernando Farinha continued to develop his art. His qualities as a singer became more and more evident as his natural talent was brought more to the fore by constant practice.

The "Boy of the Bica" who's voice was acclaimed by public and critics alike when he was nine years old, began singing in "Solar de Alegria" and in "Retiro da Severa" by the time he was ten, and at eleven years of age made his first record, thus becoming the yongest Portuguese artist ever to record in our country. As the years passed, this voice acquired greater sonority and wider appreciation.

This new record shows us that "the boy" Fernando Farinha has not only matured in years but has also grown in stature to become a great singer.
